The SharkStopper (SS) acoustic device can be utilized as a Commercial Fishermen Shark Repellent (CFSR) to protect their fish catch. Currently, commercial fishermen are losing 20 to 40% of their catch, each and every time they fish. SharkStopper has been proven to reduce that loss.
Huge fish farms raise tuna and other valuable fish stock. They are raised in huge nets. When a fish gets sick and dies, the sharks come to the net and tear it open, thereby releasing all the fish stock, costing the farmers a lot of money and time. The SS device would be attached to the nets and would be powered utilizing one of the three different power sources described below.
There are many beaches throughout the world that have too many shark interactions with people. The SharkStopper would be deployed at a distance far enough from shore for optimum protection.
The 3 different power sources and their probable uses;
- Solar Power: This configuration is only applicable when the units are deployed near
the top of the water to protect municipal swimming beaches. - Local Municipal Electrical Power: When protecting municipal beach areas, it may
also be possible to connect the system directly to the local municipality’s power. - Rechargeable Batteries: For active open-ocean fishing operations, the devices
must rely on rechargeable batteries, since the units will mostly operate submerged
underwater. To maintain continuous protection, a dual-set rotation system is used: while
one set of batteries are underwater protecting the catch, a second set is charging. When
the fishermen pull up the fish along with the SS units, these depleted SS units are
placed onto a vessel-based charging station, and the fresh set is immediately deployed.
